Cranstons Supports the Borderline Challenge in Aid of Farmers’ Mental Health

24th September 2025

At Cranstons, we’re proud to support initiatives that strengthen our local communities, and we were delighted to play a small part in the recent Borderline Challenge – a remarkable fundraising event which has now successfully raised over £17,000.

The Borderline Challenge team set out to cycle across Ireland, swim the North Channel, cycle through Scotland, and run along Hadrian’s Wall. When storms made the sea crossing impossible, they showed real resilience by adapting their plan and swimming the full length of Ullswater instead – a huge achievement in its own right.

The challenge was undertaken in aid of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI), a charity that provides financial support, practical help, and vital mental health services for people working in farming. Mental health is a particularly pressing issue within agriculture, where long hours, financial pressures, and isolation can take a heavy toll.

When the Borderline team passed through Brampton, our colleagues at Cranstons Brampton Food Hall welcomed them with refreshments – sausage twist rolls, bacon, coffee, water, and flapjack – to help fuel them for the miles ahead. Our team were delighted to meet the challengers in person and show our support for the cause.

Reflecting on the experience, the Borderline Challenge team said: “We’ve been amazed by the engagement that The Borderline Challenge has received. The most special part of the entire challenge was the support we received along the way. Thank you to everyone who shared a kind word, donated to the cause or fuelled us to the finish line.”

James Cranston said: “As a business rooted in farming for more than a century, we understand the challenges many in the agricultural community face. Supporting the Borderline Challenge was an easy decision for us – it shines a light on farmers’ mental health while raising vital funds for RABI’s work. We’re incredibly proud of the team’s determination and were delighted to welcome them at our Brampton Food Hall.”

If you’d like to celebrate their incredible achievement and support farming families, you can still donate through their JustGiving page: The Borderline Challenge JustGiving page.

Congratulations to the Borderline Challenge team on completing this inspiring effort, and thank you to RABI for the essential work they do for farming families across the UK.
