Cranstons Carlisle Food Hall Celebrates 40 Years

12th December 2025

Cranstons’ Carlisle Food Hall is marking an incredible milestone this year as it celebrates 40 years at the heart of the city. Since opening its doors in 1985, the Food Hall has grown into a much-loved destination for quality local produce, friendly service, and traditional butchery craft.

From day one, the Carlisle team has been committed to offering customers the very best. The Food Hall brings together expert butchery alongside deli favourites and handmade pies – all underpinned by Cranstons’ long-standing relationships with local farmers and producers. Today, it continues to showcase the work of scores of Cumbrian suppliers. The shop’s hot counter has also become a Carlisle favourite, known for its hearty breakfast butties made using Cranstons’ own meat products

Mark Mallinson, Cranstons Area Manager for Carlisle, said:
“Forty years is a big milestone for us. Carlisle has always supported Cranstons, and we’re incredibly proud of the loyal customers who choose to shop with us week after week. Our team works hard to deliver the quality and care people expect from Cranstons, and it’s a privilege to celebrate four decades in this community.”

At Cranstons, we’re proud of our heritage and the values that have guided us since 1914 — fairness to farmers, high-welfare local meat, traditional butchery skills, and genuine customer care. Carlisle Food Hall has been a key part of that story for the past four decades, evolving with the community while staying true to the Cranstons ethos.

Mark continued: “As we celebrate this anniversary, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our Carlisle customers. Your support over the past 40 years has helped shape the Food Hall into what it is today — and we look forward to serving you for many more years to come.”
