We recently picked up 3 coveted Great Taste 2023 Awards, bagging 2-stars for our honey roast ham and 1 -star for both our Best Streaky Bacon and Traditional Thick Cumberland sausage.  Our wins were part of wider Cumbrian success story at the annual awards with 84 Cumbrian products judged worthy of Great Taste status.

Our Honey Roast Ham’s flavour was described as ‘delicate, elegant and moreish’ by judges, along with saying that ‘it is a wonderful example of a beautifully prepared and roasted ham. Sublime.’  Our streaky bacon was judged to be ‘tender and moist’ and our famous Cumberland sausage was said to be ‘meaty and satisfying- they (Cranstons) should be applauded for keeping things simple.’

David Law, our Production Director said ‘We are over the moon to have received 3 Great Taste Awards this year. This latest Great Taste success is testament to the skill and expertise we have in our Penrith butchery centre and kitchens and I would like to congratulate the whole production team.  Curing bacon well, making great sausage and expertly preparing and roasting hams are all traditional craft skills that have been passed from generation to generation throughout Cranstons history.’’

Recognised as a stamp of excellence and actively sought out by food lovers and retailers alike, Great Taste organised by the Guild of Fine Food, values taste above all else, every product is removed from its packaging so it cannot be identified before entering a robust, layered judging process. For the 2023 awards the Guild received 14195 entries and only 5904 (41.6%) won awards, of those 248 (1.8% of entries) were 3 star, 1568 (11% of entries) were 2 star and 4088 (28% of entries) were 1 star.

These prizes join over 50 individual quality awards won by us – our Rare Roast Beef was awarded the title ‘Best Deli product in the UK’ at the Q Guild of Butchers Smithfield Awards 2023.
